Consultation Summary

NTSNs set technical and operational requirements and assessment procedures for the design, build and operation of new, upgraded, or renewed rail infrastructure, vehicles, and many component parts. The current NTSNs were published by the Secretary of State on 1 January 2021 to replace and substantially reproduce the technical content of the European Union’s Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSIs). Revisions to most TSIs were published in September 2023. This has prompted a need to consider changes to equivalent parts of the NTSNs and an opportunity to resolve previously identified issues with some existing requirements.

All comments and responses to these which have been approved by the relevant standards committees are in the folder of each NTSN below, along with revised business cases for change and draft NTSNs with the suffix '(Feb 2024)' which will be provided to the Department for Transport as the formal industry recommendation for revisions to the NTSNs.
